BTE Palm Beach Gardens kicked off its second year in August, building on the successes and feedback from Year 1. With a focus on health-related programming and post-secondary preparation, the Year 2 curriculum reflects a commitment to meeting student needs and fostering their aspirations.

In Year 1 evaluations, students expressed satisfaction with the STEM²D activities they’d done, and many requested more health-related activities. In response, BTE partners introduced programming such as health-focused career tours, exploration of medical education options, and guest speakers from healthcare professions. These adjustments aim to balance the students’ interest in health sciences with the successful STEM²D programming from the previous year.

With students entering their junior year, Year 2 is placing a greater emphasis on college and career readiness. Early programming featured a resume-writing workshop designed to equip students with essential skills for job applications and college admissions.

Each student received a resume writing package that covered key elements of effective resume writing, including:

  • Highlighting academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community service, and work experience
  • Using action verbs to create engaging and impactful bullet points
  • Structuring resumes that function like elevator pitches—concise and compelling!

Future activities will continue to build on these foundations, including guest presentations by an engineering recruiter from NASA and members of the healthcare industry. These sessions will provide students with insights into what makes resumes stand out, application dos and don’ts, and strategies for professional success.

Students noted the value of seeing their feedback integrated into Year 2 programming, such as the increased focus on health sciences. This approach demonstrates a collaborative effort to ensure the program remains relevant and beneficial to students’ needs.

As Year 2 progresses, BTE will continue to combine tailored programming with flexibility to adapt to student needs. With initiatives like health sciences career tours, resume workshops, and industry guest speakers, the program ensures students are prepared to navigate the next steps of their educational and professional journeys. Through BTE, students are not only empowered to achieve their goals but also reminded that their voices and feedback truly matter.
